Shantel Robeaux is the owner and director of Shantel’s Dance Academy. Ms. Shantel’s passion for the art of dance became apparent from a very early age, and is still the driving force behind her efforts to share her knowledge and love for dance with her students. Recognizing this passion, her parents encouraged and supported her love of dance by enrolling her in dance classes at the age of two. After years of formal training Ms. Shantel began to choreograph pieces which were performed during various competitions. After graduating from a local dancing school she began her college career, however, Ms. Shantel continued to dance and teach at a local dance studio as well as many different recreation departments. The love of dance and the passion to teach others made it an easy decision for her to open a dance studio.
Ms. Shantel, along with her staff frequently attends workshops and conventions throughout the year to continue their dance education. Ms. Shantel frequently networks with other dance studio owners and teachers throughout the United States in an effort to stay up to date on the latest trends in the world of dance.
Ms. Shantel is a member of Dance Masters of America (DMA) and Louisiana Dance Masters of America (LADM). DMA & LADM are nationally known non-profit educational organizations. She received her certification to teach Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Acrobatics by passing a written and practical examination in each subject. Ms. Shantel feels blessed to be able to pass on her love for dance to so many students.
Ms. Megan is a 2014 Graduate of Shantel’s Dance Academy and Belle Chasse High School. During high school, she was a member of the Cardinalette Dance Team in addition to taking many classes with Ms. Shantel. Ms. Megan has been a dancer at the studio since it opened in 1999. Ms. Megan learned her love of dance from her Nanny (Ms. Shantel). Growing up in the studio, she was able to see every part of the business and couldn't wait to be old enough to become an assistant teacher. She knew the only thing she wanted to do was dance and teach. Ms. Megan takes every opportunity to continue her dance eduation. Aside from teaching dance, Ms. Megan holds an administrative assistant position at a local law firm. Ms. Megan is very excited to share her love of dance with her students.
Ms. Kimi is a Belle Chasse graduate where she graduated with honors and was 3rd in her class. She is a graduate of the University of New Orleans with a degree in Secondary English Education Degree. As Ms. Shantel's cousin, Ms. Kimi has always been very involved in the dance studio and has studied dance for the past 15 years with Ms. Shantel. Ms. Kimi is a full time teacher at AOL. You can find Ms. Kimi helping throughtout the year in many areas of the studio. The annual recital is always an exciting time for her. She looks forward to working back stage during the recital, and helping with many different task throughout the recital day. As an educator, Ms. Kimi is always encouraging, and eager to help everyone.
Ms. Macie has been a dancer for the past 16 years. She has been a part of Shantel's Dance Academy since the studio was opened in 1999. She was also a member of the Crystalettes for 2 years where she held the position as a Junior Officer, and was also a member of the Eaglettes for 2 years. Ms. Macie began as a teacher assistant in Junior High. After graduating from high school she knew that she wanted to keep dance as part of her everyday life. Ms. Macie is currently working as the office assistant and teaching numerous classes at Shantel's Dance Academy. She is also a full-time student at Delgado Community College and is majoring in education. Ms. Macie loves to be part of our staff and sharing her passion for dance with her students.
Ms. Jennifer joined our staff after spending a few years as a guest teacher and competition choreographer with Shantel's Dance Academy. She is honored to now be part of our staff as the Competition Director and Contemporary teacher at SDA. Ms. Jennifer grew up in Metairie, where she studied various styles of dance. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance performance and choreography. She was a four-year performer with the Repertory Dance Company at USM and had the honor of choreographing two of their routines. Ms. Jennifer has attended classes and intensives with those such as Misnomer Dance Theatre, STREB, and Nikolais Louis Dance Company. She also performed around the country with the Chard Gonzalez Dance Theater, Aside from her dance career, she holds an administrative assistant job at a prestigues CPA firm. Ms. Jennifer enjoys challenging her dancers and gets them eager to learn.
Ms. Kellis is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher from Clinton, Mississippi. In 2010, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Following her undergraduate studies, she moved to New York City to pursue her master's degree in dance at New York University, graduating from Tisch School of the Arts with a Masters of Fine Arts in 2012. Ms. Kellis is a former instructor of dance at Belhaven University in Jackson, MS and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattisburg, MS. She specializes in ballet, contemporary, jazz, musical theatre, and performance techniques. Ms. Kellis and her husband recently moved to New Orleans, where she is thrilled to be a new member of the Marigny Opera Ballet. She looks forward to setting roots in the artistic community of New Orleans.
Ms. Julia is a lifelong resident of Belle Chasse and a past graduate of Shantel's Dance Academy. With over 23 years of dance experience, Ms. Julia has a caring way of interacting with young dancers. At a young age Ms. Julia had the passion for dance. Throughout her childhood, dance played an important role in her life. She attended dance conventions attending classes with numerous Master Teachers, participated in competitions, and traveled for performances at many popular family attractions. After becoming a mom to three beautiful children, Ms. Julia made it a priority to return to the studio to fulfill her love for dance. Having children of her own, she understands the importance of helping young dancers build confidence and have a fun time in class. Her patients and love for dance shines inside and outside the classroom.
Lauren Guynes is a dancer and choreographer from Terry, MS. In 2013, Lauren received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Southern Mississippi. During her time at Southern Miss, she performed with the USM Repertory Dance Company. She had the privilege of working with student and faculty choreographers, as well as guest artists such as InSpirit, Glen Meynardie, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and ClancyWorks Dance Company. After graduation, she had the opportunity to perform as a guest artist with Hattiesburg's Hub Dance Collective. She then moved to New York City where she had an internship with WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company. During her time in New York, she performed the work of Kelly Ferris-Lester at the 2014 Brockport Alumni Concert and the 2014 DUMBO Dance Festival. Lauren then relocated to Mobile, AL in 2015 where she began teaching dance for all levels at Gulf Coast Dance Alliance. She has since been a guest choreographer for numerous dance programs in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, as well as performing alongside Hub Dance Collective in the 2015 Chicago Harvest Dance Festival. Most recently, Lauren has joined the Marigny Opera Ballet in New Orleans. She is excited to start this new chapter of her career in performance, as well as sharing her love of dance through teaching.
Ms. Kimberly is a Belle Chasse graduate and was a member of the Cardinalette's dance team. She is recently graduated with a Finance Degree from the University of New Orleans. Ms. Kimberly has studied dance for the past 23 years and has spent 15 of those years studying with Ms. Shantel. Dance has always been an important part of her life and truly enjoys working with our young dancers.
